Colors of freedom
Colors of Freedom
Explore the new art project at the Hoge Riele "Colors of Freedom." Together with artist Ann Bevers, children and young people brought their sense of freedom to life—using scraps of fabric, color, and imagination.
The result? One large, impressive canvas of freedom, now on display at the restaurant.
During our summer program, we hosted a six-week workshop exploring the human right to freedom through art.
In the workshop, participants used fabric to create their own original flags — experimenting with colors, shapes, and layers to express what freedom means to them.
All these unique creations were later brought together by artist Ann Bevers into one large, collective flag.
The final piece is a stunning work that combines the artist’s vision of De Hoge Rielen with the creativity of the participants. These two elements come together in a piece now displayed on our domain, capturing the essence of the forest’s colors, the power of imagination, and the sense of freedom that nature brings.
But the flag is only the first piece of this project. At its heart lies a simple yet powerful question: what does freedom mean to you?
Throughout the summer, we invited participants to share their thoughts, on paper, through art, and in conversation. Their answers revealed many shades of freedom: from friendship and creativity to nature and self-expression.
Now, this reflection continues. Around our domain, you’ll find posters and question cards inviting every visitor to pause and think about what freedom means to them. Whether during a walk in the forest, a workshop, or a quiet moment by the lake, we hope these questions inspire you to connect with the world around you and with your own sense of freedom.
